We source our raw timber exclusively from sustainable and dependable suppliers. Our dowels are predominantly crafted from locally grown Saligna, a Eucalyptus specie, and Pine, which are delivered from the mill to our factory as cut-to-length boards.
Saligna, a hardwood, is the preferred choice for dowels, while Pine, a softwood, is prone to warping or bowing during storage.
We utilize the prime, central section of the log, known as the Clears. The outer layers, referred to as semi-clears, industrial, or furniture grade, are used in industries where structural integrity or aesthetics are less critical. In some cases, we may laminate or finger-join the timber to achieve the desired sizes.
The raw material arrives as planks and is processed through a multi-rip saw to cut it to the specific dimensions needed for each dowel diameter.
These planks are then fed into a moulder, which shapes them from rectangular pieces into round dowels. The dowels are then cut to the standard lengths of 900mm and 1800mm, or custom lengths based on specific orders.
Finally, the dowels are sanded, bundled, and marked with painted ends to indicate their diameter. For example, 10mm dowels have green ends.
Our sawdust and waste is recycled and used by the agricultural sector, such as pig farms and nurseries.
Additionally, we also offer dowels in any available exotic timbers such as Kiaat, Oak, Wenge, Rosewood, Rubberwood, or Beech.
